Wood, vinyl, chain link and iron fences, built by a local crew for Shasta County heat, wind and rocky ground.
Think about what your fence goes through here. July afternoons that hit 105 degrees bake the boards from one side. Winter storms soak the posts. Then the north wind leans on the whole run for days at a time. A fence built like it's going up in a mild coastal town starts to sag and split within a few seasons.
Most of the failures we see start underground. Posts set too shallow, or set straight into wet clay with no gravel under them, rot at the base and tip. The boards above can look fine right up until a section falls into the neighbor's yard. We set posts deep, in concrete, with drainage underneath, because that's the part you can't fix later without tearing it all out.

From the older neighborhoods around Lake Redding to newer homes off Shasta View Drive and acreage out in Palo Cedro and Millville, we build fences that fit the property. Plenty of our work is on big lots, where a fence has to handle livestock, deer or a long run along a dirt road. Since the 2018 Carr Fire, more homeowners on the west side ask about metal fencing near the house. California's new Zone 0 rules call for noncombustible fencing within the first five feet of a home, and we're glad to walk you through your options.
It depends on the material, the height and how many feet you need. Most wood privacy fences in our area run about $20 to $45 per linear foot installed. Chain link usually comes in lower, and vinyl and ornamental metal come in higher. Gates, slopes and rocky digging add to the total. The fastest way to a real number is a free estimate, where we measure your actual line and give you the price in writing.
A typical backyard fence, 150 to 200 feet with a gate or two, takes one to three days once we start. The concrete around the posts needs a day or two to set before the panels go on, so some jobs come back for a second visit. Long acreage runs, hillside lots and hard rock can stretch the schedule. We give you a clear timeline with your estimate.
Usually not. Under the California Building Code, fences 7 feet or shorter don't need a building permit in Redding, as long as they're at least 10 feet from a public right-of-way. Height limits still apply, though. Front-yard fences top out at 3 feet. Side and rear fences top out at 6, or 7 along interior lines that don't face a street. Before we build, we confirm the rules for your lot so nothing surprises you later.
Know where your property line sits. A survey or your lot pins help a lot. Clear plants, firewood and anything stored along the fence line, and give your neighbors a heads up if the fence sits on a shared line. Under California's Good Neighbor Fence Act, adjoining owners generally share the cost of a boundary fence. We handle the utility locate before we dig.
Both work when they're built right. Wood costs less up front and looks natural, but the sun dries it out, so plan to seal it every couple of years. Vinyl costs more at the start and needs almost no upkeep. The key is buying vinyl rated for UV, since cheap panels can yellow and turn brittle in our summers. We'll show you samples of both at your estimate.
